The clutch for a tractor's power take off or PTO for short can cause some tricky problems if not repaired correctly. Luckily replace the PTO clutch yourself is pretty simple, just follow these steps:
- Remove the hood and front grill assembly of your tractor
- Remove the muffler and then the PTO actuator bar
- Press the center button of the clutch, releasing it
- Carefully clean and lubricate the set screws and their holes
- Remove all 6 screws with an allen wrench, be careful not to strip the screws
- Remove pulley assembly and clutch basket
- Replace parts
The PTO clutch will generally run you $200-300 new or you can buy a used or refurbished clutch for around half the price of a new one.
