The Cub Cadet 127 was produced from 1969 to 1971 and is a popular older Cub Cadet model. The 127 featured a Kohler K301A engine, a 476cc 1 cylinder motor producing 12 horsepower. It also featured a PTO with a mechanical dry disc clutch and brakes and 3 different deck sizes: 38", 42" and a whopping 48" deck. Nothing will annoy the neighbors (and your wife) more than a cracked or missing muffler on your lawn tractor. Luckily, replacing a Cub Cadet muffler is pretty easy for most models as they use a clamp instead of require a weld. Replacement mufflers are also pretty inexpensive, so we would recommend buying a new muffler even though a used one might be $5 less.

If your muffler is just cracked or loose, you can try replacing your muffler clamp or using some JB weld to fix it. If the crack is very large, you should go ahead and replace it as it is cheap and easy to do it yourself.

To extend the life of your muffler, you can buy some high temperature spray paint and give it a good coating to make it last a little longer.

Your Cub Cadet's mower deck takes a lot of abuse (some more than others) and can get dinged up, bent and sometimes even broken over time. Not only that, your mower deck is also subject to a lot of moisture and can rust over time even if you wash it after every mowing. Mower decks are usually pretty expensive to replace but used ones can be found more reasonably. It doesn't matter if you have a 50", 60" or 72" deck, they all are expensive to replace but the price is generally going to increase with the size of the deck.

There is good news. If you can find a reasonably priced mower deck, they are quite easy to replace using the following steps:

1. Park Cub Cadet on flat surface in neutral with PTO disengaged.
2. Lower mower deck to its lowest position (if it doesn't rest on the ground, put some blocks under it)
3. Remove the guard from the drive belt and idler pulleys and remove the drive belt
4. Remove the cotter pins that connect the deck to the tractor and any other linkage (this is going to vary by year and model)
5. Lift deck handle to highest position, pull out old deck and insert replacement
6. Follow steps in reverse to attach new deck

The throttle cable on your cub cadet takes a lot of abuse, especially for those with smaller yards or who live near a busy street and have to make a lot of speed changes. Cub Cadet throttle cables are pretty well made but they do break from time to time. If this happens to you, don't worry, replacements can be found online for under $10.

1. Open the hood and locate the air filter housing (make sure the engine is cool first!)
2. Loosen the knob on the air filter cover and remove it
3. Remove the small seal from the top of the air filter and remove the wing nut under it
4. Remove the filter (be sure not to let any leaves, dirt or other debris fall in to the hole!)

Nothing makes a cub cadet looks worse than flaking, peeling decals. Unfortunately, after a lot of washing and some exposure to the elements, this is exactly what will happen. Decals can generally be purchased for $5 - $50 depending on if you need just one decal or the entire set. Applying the decals is easy following this simple process:

The Cub Cadet 782 and 782D were produced during the early 80's (1980-1985 and 1984-1985 respectively) but can still be found running strong in many neighborhoods. The 782 featured a 2 cylinder 17hp Kohler KT-17 engine while the 782D (for diesel) featured a 3 cylinder Kubota D600-B producing 15hp.
